In 1988, a man from the Bronx and a woman from Arkansas traded the clamor of New York City for the sea breeze of Malibu, settling into a white house on stilts in Las Flores Canyon. Perched above Duke’s restaurant and reached by the winding ribbon of Rambla Pacifico, their home looked out over a horizon where the sky dissolved into the Pacific. Two of their three children were born and grew up on this hillside, their days shaped by salt air and the glow of canyon sunsets—until the Old Topanga Fire of November 1993 passed through and took the home. The family began anew in the South of France, and for over thirty years, the land has rested quietly, holding its memories, waiting for its next chapter.
